A counter-view

As an atheist, I would prefer a secular society. Most media I consume supports that preference.

It is refreshing to challenge myself with an alternative viewpoint that is well-thought-out.

Allow me to present Jean Bethke Elshtain on TVO's Big Ideas and her views on a middle ground between an entirely secular society and a theocracy.

Hello,

Thank you for your comment about Jean Bethke Elshtain's lecture.

Given what you have said about your atheist worldview, you might be interested in a recent debate on TVO's Agenda about atheist advertising on public transportation. Here's a link:

I'll have a look. Before seeing the debate, I have to say that a lot of Christian advertising seems outside the bounds of good taste than the atheist signs in question.

By the way, what is the metapsychological club?

Interesting post and accompanying in-depth video. Religion, politics, and culture are certainly very entwined...it was great to hear an academic account of it.

Darn short post, but the video looks interesting (I still haven't seen it).

I just saw the debate and it was interesting.

I enjoyed the various viewpoints, although Kathy Shaidle seemed a little scary to me and appeared the most negative.
Justin Trottier, apparently the youngest panelist, did well in voicing mostly well-thought-out comments except for one that was out of the blue, about circumcision (I think it was male circumcision; I didn't think that was all that controversial).
